IconsWisdom is the application of knowledge. This is especially true when it comes to investing. Many people who get started with investing make the mistake of not studying the markets and learning what they need to know for producing sound investments.

Don’t be a part of that group. Learn what you need to know with financial modeling training. If you’re serious about investing your money for the long term or short term, you can meet your investment goals with these open source investing tools.

My Money

www.mthbuilt.com – This program works with your online bank accounts and will help you to stay on top of your investments and keep all of your financial information conveniently organized in one simple and easy to read format.

NetWorth

http://sourceforge.net/projects/networth-java/ – With this tool you can balance your checkbooks, check your investments and manage your financial life all in one convenient and easy to use format.

Monex

http://sourceforge.net/projects/networth-java/ – Monex is another account management tool that will help you to consolidate all of your investment accounts in one simple and easy to read format that will save you time and money.

Before Using an Online Program Do This

  • Verify – Make sure that the program you’re intent on using with be right for your needs by researching that program online through search engines like Google.
  • Call your investment bank – The best person to speak with about open source investment tools is your own personal banker. Since most banks use proprietary software wouldn’t you want to use the same software they are using so everyone can be on the same page financially?
  • Free vs. Paid – Sometimes it’s cool to use free, open source programs but it’s not always the best decision because paid versions tend to have more features and benefits that will help you with managing your investments. Paid programs also offer better levels of customer service and support than what you would find with free programs.

Pocket KnifeProgrammers around the world are familiar with the term “open source”. For those tech newbies all open source means is having the freedom and flexibility to make changes to the code of a program yourself without having to pay a programmer hundreds of dollars to make changes.

When it comes to the iPhone, this device has its limitations because it has its own operating system and the average person is stuck within the confines of Apple technology unless they jailbreak their iPhone.

How to Jailbreak An iPhone

Download an iPhone jailbreak program from a website like: www.zipphone.org and run the program on your phone. During the installation process you will be asked to also download an additional program called Cydia, you should accept this program too because, it will enable you to do more things with other 3rd party applications after you jailbreak your phone.

Once the programs have installed you should restart your phone and the jailbreak process will be complete.

Top Reasons to Jailbreak an iPhone

  • Freedom – There’s nothing like being able to use your phone how you want, when you want without having to be stuck within Apple’s rules and regulations.
  • More networks – You can take your phone to another cell phone carrier and not get stuck with a dead phone.
  • Mobile hot spot – When the jailbreak process is complete you can turn your iPhone into a mobile hotspot.

Lots of Cool Programs to Choose From

When you jailbreak your iPhone you will also be able to do many other cool things besides using 3rd party apps. You will be able to use your iPhone unlock with programs like BrowserChanger so you don’t get stuck using Safari all the time, make calls on Google voice and trick your phone into thinking that you’re connected to a Wi-Fi network so you can make facetime calls, anytime.

c8For many, knowing the source of electricity that is supplied to their business is a matter of being familiar with the singular company; because that’s all there is that is available to them in their location.

Everything’s Bigger in Texas

That includes the number of choices of power providers to the population of Texas. In 2002 Texas experienced deregulation which made it possible for their citizens and businesses to pick from more than one energy service provider. That means competition; and competition usually means price wars. They can now research the energy providers to see which provider is right for them. The commission for public utilities oversees the entire operation just make sure things don’t get out of hand. Unfortunately for 25% of Texas this only applies to 75% of the entire state. But that’s not bad. The monopoly that some state’s power companies have on that state is similar to the really old days before cell phones when companies like Wisconsin Bell or New Jersey Bell (just examples) had a monopoly on all phone lines. It just doesn’t give the consumer any choice.

It’s Not Just the Prices

This deregulation, as mentioned, is good for the consumers because it offers various plans and of course various pricing as well; but it’s also good for our mother earth. Water and air pollutants are being minimized by the building and utilization of numerous wind farms. The deregulation that took place back in 2002 in Texas is encouraging the utilization of renewable resources for residential and business power needs. Having a choice of companies with which to deal is always nice in almost any given circumstance; having a choice of resources that the company will provide from is even better. In these days of ‘going green’ energy efficiency is at the forefront of many people’s minds.

Familiarize yourself and compare business electricity that best suit your business in your area.

What to Look for when Choosing a Colocation Provider?

d3If you are going to entrust your data center servers to a colocation provider, it is important to ensure that you get the best person for the job. Otherwise, they may end up messing your business big time. There are important considerations to make when choosing a colocation provider. Here are the most important:

Do not Go for a Reseller

The reselling business in the cyber space is booming. When choosing between colocation providers, ascertain for a fact that they are they own and run the colocation facility. Ask for registration documentation if you have to, to be sure. You can also talk to clients who have used the services before to find out whether the person you are registering with is the owner or a reseller sub-letting space. This is crucial because in case of any problem with your network, only the colocation owner can help you. Real owners are also more likely to ensure high standards of operation than resellers, who have little to lose should a customer decide not to renew the hosting contract.

Reliability

This is one of the most important factors to consider. Your colocation provider must be reliable, with a proven track record to show for it. If they have a high turn-over and frequent downtimes, you want to steer clear of them. If not, get ready to be unavailable most of the time and inconvenience your clients. Look for providers with proven uptime above 99%.

You should also check how long they have been in operation. Colo companies come up all the time and most disappear just as fast. To avoid this inconvenience, choose a provider who is stable, preferably one who has been around for at least three years. Ger references to cross-check what the overall service with the provider is like.

Check their Security Plan

Do not assume that just because someone has colocation facilities, their security arrangement is great. Check out their security arrangement, right from the physical security. Be sure that your server cannot be stolen or data compromised in any way.

Check the Quality of Equipment they Use

You have every right to know the specifications of the hardware they have in the colocation facility. Their cooling system should be good; they should have redundancy in place and uninterruptible power supply (UPS). Importantly, the UPS should be connected to all other equipment, including the cooling system. Get their preventive and maintenance contracts on cooling and power supply. If the colocation provider is located near where you are, take a physical tour of their facility.

Accessibility and Availability

The colocation facility should be running 24/7 and accessible over that same period. Check how accommodating and helpful their customer service is. Are the quick in responding and helping? Are they even available at odd hours? The only way to find out is by calling late at night or very early in the morning.

Cost

Choose a provider with reasonably priced packages. After all, one of the reasons you are outsourcing to colocation is because you want to save some money. Choose between bandwidth packages and the 95th percentile, whichever will be cheaper for you.

What Makes a Good Lender?

p13Whether one shops around locally or online, one will find a plethora of lenders that offer short-term paycheck advances (commonly called “payday loans”). Borrowers should take a careful and discerning approach, though, to an industry in which all the players in the market bear a striking resemblance to one another. Despite all of the horror stories, there are reputable lenders; despite industry assurances, some store fronts may be harboring unscrupulous businesses.

Separating Wheat from Chaff

An educated consumer is always the one who faces the least risk. Just as one would not simply turn off the freeway into the first car lot to purchase a new vehicle, one should take care in choosing the right lender. Knowledge is key. For instance, reputable lenders will not ask for any up-front fees as a contingency for forwarding a pay advance to an employed person, and such a thing should be considered a bright red flag.

The Power of Cyberspace

One of the Internet’s great conveniences is that financial institutions are able to conduct wireless business with their customers. Another major advantage to our Web-based economy is that consumers have the ability to post reviews and anecdotes about their experiences with companies. Anyone with an Internet connection can go online and find out how a lender operates (and how satisfied or otherwise their customers really are).
It is also incumbent upon borrowers to act wisely when they do take out payday advances. Paying back the loan on time is crucial to minimizing the amount of extra money one will have to pay back on top of the principle. No fax payday loans should only be used in times of great need, and one should only borrow what one will be able to pay back at the end of the following pay period.

w9Are you struggling with choosing between pay per month web hosting, shared hosting or dedicated hosting? How about cloud hosting?

Cloud hosting is a newer form of hosting and its focus is on keeping a website up and helping it to deal with peak usage easier than it would on a shared server.

How does Cloud Hosting Work?

In cloud hosting a website is hosted on more than one server and its resources are spread out over those servers which make it easier for that site to handle peak usages during the day, grow and expand over time.

Just about every major tech company in this day and age from Amazon to Google has their websites hosted on cloud servers which helps them to always be up and available to their users twenty four hours per day.

Companies of all sizes around the world are also turning to cloud hosting to save money and offer more value to their users.

How does the Set Up Process Work?

When you choose a cloud hosting plan you will first choose the size of the cloud server that you want, select your operating system and then within a few minutes your cloud hosing provider will email you a link to your clouds Control Panel where you will be able to login and upload or make changes to your website. Many cloud hosting companies charge by the hour and basic cloud hosting plans start at $10.95 and up depending on the space that you need.

Cloud Hosting Security

Many security experts have expressed a concern over possible security holes in cloud hosting companies that enable hackers to break in, steal and manipulate data. Before anyone chooses a cloud hosting company they should ask that company questions about its security procedures because with more servers being used than a shared server hosting scenario it’s important to verify that the cloud hosting company you choose has security you can trust.

Reduce the difficulty of choosing the right long term web hosting contract that will fit your unpredictable future needs, get a month to month web hosting provider instead.

Thinking of Creating a Website for your Business?

bp5There are two ways to buy a bicycle: You can purchase one wholly assembled and ready to ride, or you can buy one in the box and spend an afternoon with wrenches and ratchets and sockets and screwdrivers and build it yourself. Even the most mechanically inclined individuals might take the latter route once or twice, but eventually, one will probably want to get their hands on the finished product.

It’s Your Baby

When it comes to websites, one finds the same sort of vacillation between the two approaches. With a few helpful books or tutorials, and a lot of spare time, one may feel quite comfortable hacking out their own website. There is a level of comfort with the material in such cases – it’s your business, it’s your website, and you are getting exactly what you want out of each. When one encounters the more technical aspects of Web-working, such as client file management or accounts payables and receivables, one may turn to the experts, if only as a matter of convenience.

If You Want Something Done Right… Hire a Pro?

Never mind the intimidation factor of DIY-IT. Evaluating your business from an honest and forthright perspective is the first and most important step to coming up with the best possible website for your business – no matter who builds the thing. Experts in web design are gainfully employed for two reasons; they’re good at what they do, and you’re not. At cyber-speed, prospective clients can take one look at your online fare and from that first impression, they will make split-second decisions.

Companies of all sizes invest a lot of time and money to build and maintain their online profiles. There’s too much at stake (i.e., your livelihood) to risk putting off customers with a Dick-and-Jane website. However, that doesn’t mean you are handing off creative control when you hand over website duties to an expert. Good web designers will work with you to make sure that your online representation is as accurate, efficient and personally pleasing. They know you wouldn’t have it any other way.

Whether you decided to DIY-IT or hiring a Pro, make sure you use a business plan template to create an elective strategy.

The History of USB Memory Sticks

u8Everyone loves USB flash fresh drives because they are the easiest way to take the files from their computers with them wherever they go but few people know the real history behind these devices.

Bulk USB flash drives have a NAND flash memory that’s integrated with a USB adapter that enables them to be plugged into the USB port on any computer. There are a wide variety of commercially available bulk USB sticks on the market today and they come in different shapes and sizes. The average memory capacity of a bulk USB memory stick is up to 64 gigabytes or more.

Where it All Started

Back in 1998 Dov Moran and Dan Harkabi invented, developed and released the first USB memory stick to the market. With the invention of the USB memory stick no drivers were needed to make the device work and the average computer user was able to take their files with them more easily than they had been able to in the past. Once the first USB memory stick was released controversy came with it as three major technology companies filed lawsuits against each other claiming ownership of the original patent. These lawsuits were eventually solved and every major company from IBM to Lexar began releasing their own versions of the USB memory stick.

A lot Has Changed

Since the original USB memory stick was released to the market it’s gone through many changes and revisions including being used for marketing by companies around the world. Many companies have USB memory sticks manufactured with their logo on them in bulk and then they give those devices to sales prospects and existing customers. Since the average person loves to get something for free and a USB memory stick offers value the recipient uses them on a regular basis without realizing that they are being marketed to on a daily basis. It’s a win, win situation.
