For many, knowing the source of electricity that is supplied to their business is a matter of being familiar with the singular company; because that’s all there is that is available to them in their location.
Everything’s Bigger in Texas
That includes the number of choices of power providers to the population of Texas. In 2002 Texas experienced deregulation which made it possible for their citizens and businesses to pick from more than one energy service provider. That means competition; and competition usually means price wars. They can now research the energy providers to see which provider is right for them. The commission for public utilities oversees the entire operation just make sure things don’t get out of hand. Unfortunately for 25% of Texas this only applies to 75% of the entire state. But that’s not bad. The monopoly that some state’s power companies have on that state is similar to the really old days before cell phones when companies like Wisconsin Bell or New Jersey Bell (just examples) had a monopoly on all phone lines. It just doesn’t give the consumer any choice.
It’s Not Just the Prices
This deregulation, as mentioned, is good for the consumers because it offers various plans and of course various pricing as well; but it’s also good for our mother earth. Water and air pollutants are being minimized by the building and utilization of numerous wind farms. The deregulation that took place back in 2002 in Texas is encouraging the utilization of renewable resources for residential and business power needs. Having a choice of companies with which to deal is always nice in almost any given circumstance; having a choice of resources that the company will provide from is even better. In these days of ‘going green’ energy efficiency is at the forefront of many people’s minds.
